‘I would wholeheartedly recommend The Pilgrim’s Progress as a resource for schools. The curriculum planning which has been researched and written by Ruth brings this important story to life, and the children in my own school benefitted enormously from many of the ideas and activities contained within the document. The Year 6 children who worked with Ruth still talk most enthusiastically about the story, as well as the work they completed.'

I enjoyed The Pilgrim’s Progress because I like adventure stories and in The Pilgrim’s Progress it is about Christian going on an adventurous journey. I have especially enjoyed Part 6 which was called Vanity Fair. I like doing the drama in the church. There was nothing I disliked apart from Vanity Fair when Faithful died but Faithful was the first to reach the Celestial City. I will remember what an awesome author John Bunyan was. I am really interested in the river of death!

Working in Bedford, the home of John Bunyan, means it's even more important that the teaching of The Pilgrim's Progress is of both a high quality and is also very succinct for our pupils. Having taught The Pilgrim’s Progress for a number of years I’ve always felt the story enables a great deal of creativity- we’ve visited the Saltmine Theatre, had guest speakers in and re-enacted parts of the story ourselves through role play and the impact on learners was very positive. Although I’ve always found that the children engage very well with the story some find the narrative difficult to follow in parts. Ruth's work carefully balances the facts around the story alongside the needs of the modern teacher. The cross referencing, suggested activities and enrichment opportunities means the learners not only engage with the subject matter but they have the chance to become creative with their learning as well and this cements the national as well as the local appeal of the programme of study. I look forward to working with this scheme to see the impact it will have on our learners.

Yes, I really enjoyed studying The Pilgrim’s Progress and was really sad when I was sick and missed a lesson. I enjoyed studying about The Pilgrim’s Progress and John Bunyan because it was very interesting. At first I was like ‘oh no this is going to be boring’ but Ruth made the learning really fun. I also really liked the idea of us going to the John Bunyan Museum. My favourite part was doing the acting at the museum. It was really funny when everyone ran to Peter Morden for his autograph.

The Pilgrim's Progress has for many years only been surpassed by the Bible, as the world's most popular book! This story has captivated generations both in Britain and across the world and continues to touch the lives of countless people today. The Pilgrim’s Progress: A Curriculum for Schools provides a wonderful resource which brings The Pilgrim's Progress to life for today's children. The contents have been well researched and thoughtfully brought together in a curriculum which is both engaging and inspiring. It has already been very well received by those who have used it and will be a valuable asset for teachers and students alike.

I have enjoyed studying The Pilgrim’s Progress because I’ve learnt lots more about what a pilgrim is. I never used to know what a pilgrim is now I know its about following Jesus and going to God. I will remember lots but especially remember the song we sang at the church/museum. The song was called ‘Who Would True Valour See’.
